Energy Committee
Mission Statement
The Northfield Energy Committee is working on behalf of the Town to help stabilize energy costs, lower the Town’s carbon emissions, and reduce our dependence on non-renewable energy sources. We accomplish this by promoting energy conservation through education, energy efficient design and construction techniques, and the use of renewable energy.
The Committee performs its work under the guidance of the Massachusetts Global Warming Solutions Act of 2008. This law requires the Secretary of Energy and Environmental Affairs to establish a statewide limit on greenhouse gas emissions of between 10% and 25% below 1990 levels for 2020 – on the way toward an 80% reduction in emissions by 2050.
